Root Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F has received Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow from 5.0.1 Lollipop update worldwide. We have also released several tutorials for rooting the Galaxy S5. However, those were working for Android 4.4.4 KitKat, and many users were having issues to gain root access. So here is the updated tutorial to root Galaxy S5 G900F variant running on Lollipop and Marshmallow firmware.

We are going to use the CF-auto root method by Chainfire, recognized Xda developer. Please note that using this method will void phone warranty and trip Samsung Knox. Let’s move on and learn how you can easily get rooted but before we move on you need to download the essential tools to root S5 safely.

Galaxy S5 SM-G900F root

Guidelines and Requirements:

  • This guide is specifically for the Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F. Don’t try it on another model it may brick your phone.
  • Make a backup of your data using these apps.
  • Install USB drivers on your PC or download Galaxy S5 drivers.
  • Download Odin3 v3.09.
  • Make sure you’ve got enough battery charge on your phone.
  • Last but not the least, carefully read and follow the instructions to safely root your phone.

How to Root Galaxy S5 SM-G900F

Here are the step-by-step instructions to root the International Qualcomm variant of Galaxy S5 running the latest Android 5.0 and 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

Step 1: Download cf-auto root files depending on the Android version and Build number installed on your phone. You can check it by going to Settings > System > About device as shown in the screenshot below:

  • Download for Android 5.0 (Build number: LRX21T.G900FDXU1BOA2)
  • Download root files for Android 6.0.1 (Build number: MMB29M.G900FXXU1CPD3)
  • Download cf-auto root for Android 6.0.1 (Build number: MMB29M.G900FZHU1CPH3)

Step 2: Unzip the downloaded files. Make sure that you get the kernel file in tar.md5 format.

Step 3: Power off your phone, and then reboot into download mode, by pressing and holding the Volume down + Menu + Power buttons simultaneously for 5 to 6 seconds. Volume up to confirm.

Step 4: Run the Odin3 flash tool and leave the default settings.

Step 5: Connect your phone to PC via the USB cable.

Step 6: Click on the AP/PDA button in Odin3 and select the kernel file tar.md5

Step 7: Wait for Odin to check the files and then hit the Start button.

Once completed, your phone will automatically reboot and Odin should give you Pass! Message is confirming that your Galaxy S5 has successfully been rooted running Android 5.0 Lollipop or 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

When your phone reboots make sure SuperSU app has been installed, or you can directly install it from Google Play. Don’t forget to verify root status for that you can use the root checker app that’s also available on Play Store.
