Root and Flash Custom Recovery for LG G Flex

Before its arrival, there was buzz on technology blogs and forums about the LG G Flex, which is the first Android Smartphone with Curved body and display manufactured by LG. It has just given birth to a new revolutionary idea in the Mobile industry and I am pretty sure, in the coming days, you’ll these kinds of phones from other manufacturers as well. G Flex has a unique curved design with the Android OS v4.2.2 Jelly Bean. You must be fortunate to have this amazing phone. It has awesome specs but what about software? Well, as I said, it is running on Jelly Bean and most probably you would be expecting the Android 4.4 KitKat, but that is still not official, you’ve to look for Custom ROMs, and for that definitely Rooting and Custom Recovery is compulsory. Follow the complete step by step instructions, down below, in order to safely and successfully gain root access and install recovery.

LG G Flex D958 RootedGuidelines and Requirements:

  1. First of all this rooting tutorial is specifically for LG G Flex D958. Therefore, do not try it on another variant.
  2. Rooting your Android device will always voids its Manufacturer warranty.
  3. If you Backup your data stored on device, it would be good.
  4. Enable USB Debugging by going to Developers Options. If it is not there then tap down and find the About Phone and there tap the Build Number for about 7 times and it should be enabled.
  5. Highly recommended to check your battery status before you go for the process.
  6. Last but not the least, Proceed at your own risk.

Root LG G Flex Using VRoot Toolkit:

Step 1. Hopefully you’ve downloaded and installed  the vroot toolkit application on your PC.

Step 2. Next, Run the VRoot Application.

Step 3. Using the USB Data Cable that came with the device, Connect your phone to PC and make sure, your device is recognized, if not try changing the USB port or reinstall the USB drivers.

Step 4. Now Click on the ‘Root Button’ and it will start the rooting process.

Step 5. Wait for it, once the it is completed, You’ll be notified and your phone will automatically reboots.

Step 6. Your LG G Flex is now partially rooted, Head over to Google Play Store and install the ‘SuperSU App‘ from there and run it to  update binaries.

Step 7. To make sure you’ve successfully got root access, again install ‘Root Checker App’ from Google Play Store and run it to verify root access.

Congrats!! You’ve now completely Rooted your LG G Flex, However in order to Flash Custom ROMs, You’ll require Custom Recovery either CWM or TWRP. Follow further instructions, down below to Flash Custom Recovery on your rooted LG G Flex.

How to Install ClockworkMod (CWM) Recovery for LG G Flex

Step 1. Make sure you’ve already downloaded the CWM or TWRP Recovery image, copy it to the root storage of your SD Card.

Step 2. On your phone, open Google Play Store, and install ‘Android Terminal Emulator‘.

Step 3. After the app is installed, run it on your phone.

Step 4. Now Type the Following commands, but make sure you replace the recoveryfilename.img, with the name of the recovery image file.

   su
 dd if=/sdcard/recoveryfilename.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
