Requirements and Guidelines:

1. First of all, Note that this is Unofficial released by CyanogenMod team, you can say it like an Experimental, which also means that it will have some bugs and all the features might not work properly as you may be expecting, so proceed at your own risk.

2. Also it has been reported that TWRP is still not compatible with Android 4.4 KitKat Custom ROMs, so you need to have ClockworkMod or CWM Recovery on your Verizon Galaxy S3.

3. Backup your phone data as well as take the Nandroid Backup using the CWM Recovery.

4. You’ll have to Enable USB Debugging from Developers Options which is located in the Settings tab.

5. Before proceeding to install the Android 4.4 KitKat Custom ROM, Be sure that you’ve got enough battery charge on your GS3.

  1. I love the CM11 ROM, but for some reason I keep losing my wifi connection. I had to reflash yesterday to get it working and now today I am without wifi again. What gives?
I have the Samsung Galaxy S3 with CM11 ROm KIT KAT 4.4.

    • As I have mentioned above in the Guidelines section, these are still in beta and are unofficial and more likely to be with bugs. So you need to bear these otherwise using the Nandroid Backup, Restore to your previous ROM 🙂

  2. Im having issues, ive followed the directions step by step but despite this im having an error with the installation. It keeps aborting it mid way It reads” E: Error in/sdcard/Root/cm…zip (Status 7)”

      • Same problem here. I tried to put it different places, including the root directory of my phone storage and the root directory of my external sdcard. It didn’t make any difference. What do you mean by E:CM11? I guess you are using windows and your OS mounted your phone as the drive “E:”. Did you create a folder there called “CM11” or you refer “CM11” as the zip file?

  3. When I boot to recovery I have the following options:

    reboot system now
    apply update from ADB
    apply update from external storage
    wipe data/factory reset
    wipe cache partition
    apply update from cache

So I copied the zips to my sdcard and selected “apply update from external storage”, found the zip and said OK. I stopped with “failed to verify whole-file signature”.

    Any ideas?

    • It seems to me that you’ve not installed the Custom Recovery (ClockworkMod or TWRP). You can only flash it through Custom Recovery. The one you’re running right now is the Stock Recovery, just check that there should written, ‘Android System Recovery’

  4. Hi, I did everything as described, it fails with:

    set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed
    E:Error in …zip
    (Status 7)
    Installation aborted.

I tried multiple zips from the site, downloaded some multiple times, the problem is not in my copy of the file.

I have a US Verizon SCH-I535 with Android 4.1.2 and firmware VRBMF1 rooted.

    Any help would be appreciated.

        • There are two sources sammobile and samsung-updates to get the official firmware, but as hotfile has been shutdown, you’ve to wait 1 week or more, they are currently trying to upload the firmware as quickly as possible.

          • Oh sorry, I did not read the above one 😛 You can install the ROM Manager and try from there, where you can install the TWRP or CWM Recovery.. Hopefully this works for you!!

          • Thanks, this worked. Might be a good idea to add all the prerequisites to the post (root, custom recovery, etc.). Not everyone is an android hacker to begin with.

  5. So I’ve been running Synergy Rom since August and it’s been good but I decided to try this KitKat Rom. I backed up all my apps with Tatanium Backup and did a NANDROID backup with CWM. Everything seemed to work but I lost all my contacts except a few that were saved in my phone as favoites and also lost all my text messages. Is this one of the expected bugs with the beta rom or did I miss a step in backing up my phone? I restored my phone back to Synergy for now but really liked KitKat from what I saw after an hour or so of use so really hoping to go back to it soon.
