How to Enable Finger Scanner
Just like the iPhone 5s, Samsung has added the Finger Scanner feature to Samsung Galaxy S5 which helps you secure your device from unauthorized access and with the additional feature to pay safely online with your fingerprint. It helps you to unlock and open with a swipe over the home button, Isn’t that just awesome? In order to use finger scanner, you’ve to have to first enable it. Go to Settings > Fingerprint Scanner > Fingerprint manager. You’ll also find the demo which shows you how to enable it by swiping your finger 8 times on the home button and once completed it will ask you for an alternative password.
How to Use the Emergency Mode
This is another great and useful feature added to Samsung Galaxy S5. Upon activating the emergency mode will help you to inform your family via the SMS about your current location etc and at the same time will increase the standby time of your device by disabling others features.
To activate Emergency Mode, Press the Power button for a while and you’ll see the following device options as shown in the image below:
Tap on the ‘Enable Emergency mode’ and add your family circles contact numbers. That’s it and you’re done.
Setting Up My Magazine
Same like the popular BlinkFeed on HTC One, Galaxy S5 comes with the new feature called ‘My Magazine’, which helps you to quickly browse news related to your interests like Sports, Football, Arts, Business and even from your social networking accounts. In order to set it according to your taste and interest, Swipe your home screen to the right side and it will open up the My Magazine, You’ll find the 3 vertical dots at the top, just hit that and select your choice from different categories.
How to use Download Booster
It is another great feature added to Samsung Galaxy S5, which helps to you download large files quickly with faster via Wi-Fi and mobile networks at the same time.
To enable faster downloads on Galaxy S5, Go to Settings > Download booster.
How to Increase Battery Life
Battery life is one of the most common issue with today gadgets, but this will no longer happens with Samsung Galaxy S5 as they added a new feature called “Ultra Power Saving Mode”, which helps you to access a limited number of features of your choice and let the other disable like GPS and location access. According to Samsung guys, 10% of battery can you 24 hrs of standby which is pretty good and amazing.
To Enable Ultra power saving mode on Galaxy S5, Go to Settings > Power Saving Mode > and select the Ultra Saving Mode from there.
How to take a screenshot
Now let’s come to capturing your screenshots, it can be useful on many occasions. There are 2 ways you can use to take screenshots on Galaxy S5 and I will go through both methods.
Using Hard Keys:
- Open the application/screen you want to take screenshot of.
- Hold the Home+Power buttons together, till you hear the shutter sound and your screen blinks.
- You’ll find the captured screenshots in the Gallery App.
Using Hand Swipe:
- Go to Settings> Motion > Motion and Gesture.
- Under the hand motion tab, check the Palm Swipe to Capture option.
- Once enabled, open the screen/app you want to capture its screenshot.
- Place your palm vertically your Galaxy S5 screen and move it to the right hand side.
- Once done, you can then browse the captured screenshots from the Gallery.
I would recommend you to use the first method, that is easy and quick and the rest is up to you; which one to use.
How to Enable Developers Options and USB Debugging
Most of the time, these features are used by advance users when making changes to your device. By default, Developers Options are hidden and you need to enable it. Let’s learn how to enable developers options on Galaxy S5:
- Open the Settings App
- Scroll down and look for ‘About device’ under the System category.
- Tap on it and then hit the ‘Build Number’ for about 7 to 8 times unless it prompts that it has been enabled.
- Now to Enable USB Debugging, it is available within the Developers Options.
How to Root Samsung Galaxy S5
Rooting your phone gives you full root access to your device, once your phone is rooted you can easily uninstall stock apps which are not useful for you, you can alternatively install apps from Google Play Store which requires root access just like Titanium Backup, you can also flash custom recovery in order to flash Custom ROM, Kernels and tweaks. Bloatware are the apps which comes preinstalled on your phone from the manufacturer and the carrier you’re using.
