How to Flash ClockWorkMod Recovery on Galaxy S5

We have already covered how to root all variants of Samsung Galaxy S5 except the Verizon and AT&T variant as they are very strict in these terms and thus developers are unable to root them so quickly as compare to other variants but do not underestimate the XDA developers, they will soon come up with a solution. Now when you’ve successfully rooted your Galaxy S5, now its time to try something different and install a Custom Recovery. Everything went fine except when in the step

“Wait for Odin3 to flash the recovery file, In a while it will be completed, once done, your phone willautomatically reboots. Now to verify that you’ve successfully flushed the recovery you need to reboot your phone into Custom Recovery mode by pressing and holding the Volume Up+Home+Power, buttons simultaneously.”

  • kkinderen

I’m getting a fail. ODIN version 3.09 with Samsung S5 from ATT. She’s rooted. Using philz_touch_6.26-klte.tar.md5. I see NAND Write start!! then FAIL (Auth). Using wrong file?

    • Jeff Hibdon

Hey kkinderen I got the same error FAIL (Auth). Im not an android dev by any means but I think its possible the usb drivers are not right. Its just a guess.

  • Alan Pham

I’m having some trouble with this. I downloaded both files onto my phone, opened the zip folder and moved the mdr file into the zip folder. Then, when I tried to run the odin3 on my phone, it says it can’t run the file. Am I supposed to do this on my computer?

Alas, on TMO GS5 still has stock revovery after this. Booting into recover is shows “updating.” I think it is re-writing the recovery on boot.

When using 4.4.2 and TWRP I had success, haven’t tried phil’s CWM yet, but as I’ve used both in the past, I have no preference.

  • Arunim

  • galaxyman

helpp im stuck at step 8 when i press start it says all threads completed. (succeed 0/failed 0)

  • jUNKIEd

I followed all the steps and everything seemed to be working. I’ve been waiting awhile now for it to finish flashing to my phone. How long should it take? My phone screen says “Downloading . . . Do not turn off target!!”, but it’s been about 15 minutes. Odin says ” philz_touch_6.26.2-klte.tar.md5 is valid.

    Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..

    Leave CS..

All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)

When using 4.4.2 and TWRP I had success, haven’t tried phil’s CWM yet, but as I’ve used both in the past, I have no preference. Also, make sure to have Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time checked. I got TWRP from galaxys5root dot com.
